Greenway Community Practice Patient Participation Group (PPG)

Greenway Community Practice has been serving the Southmead community and neighbouring areas for decades, providing GP services, most recently at the current premises at Greenway.

The Greenway Community Practice Patient Participation Group (PPG) is made up of a range of volunteer patient members along with representatives from the Practice including a senior GP and the Practice Manager.  The PPG aims to provide a patients’ viewpoint of their experiences and concerns, encourage the Practice to improve services, raise patients’ awareness of health matters and enhance communication between the practice staff and patients

During the past year we have worked on a number of priority areas that we chose.  To help the Practice support the patients and wider community in their own self care and self-help we have had displays in the surgery waiting room.  The displays are alongside a folder of leaflets held at the Practice reception to help patients by providing information and advice on diet, exercise, etc and signposting patients to ways in which they can deal with such ailments as colds and coughs, back pain etc

The PPG is working with the Practice to recruit volunteer drivers to help those patients who are unable to get to the surgery under their own steam.  If this is something you think you could help with do let the Practice know.   You can leave your details with the Reception in person or by phone.

The PPG is also concerned that changes to the NHS should not impact on the services that the Practice offers.  We strongly support the maintaining of the NHS as a public service not privatised.  For more information about what is happening with the NHS locally you can look at the Protect our NHS website – https://protectournhs.wordpress.com/tag/bristol/ .

Greenway PPG Community Fund

One of the ways that the Greenway Community Practice and the PPG are looking to support the local community is through our Greenway Practice PPG Community Fund.

In the past year since its launch we have funded books and toys in libraries at Little Mead and Horfield C of E Primary Schools and playspace markings at Little Mead Primary School to encourage active play for healthier children.

The Greenway PPG Community Fund comes from money raised by the Practice Staff.   Part of the funds that they raise goes into our Community Fund.  This Fund is open to local organisations to apply to for small amounts of funding – typically £50 – £75 for their group.  This could be to contribute to an outing, training, an event, etc.  The application process is simple and the guidance and application form can be downloaded from the Greenway Community Practice website

http://www.greenwaycommunitypractice.nhs.uk/?page_id=73285  Applications should then be returned by email only to the Fund administrator.

The application should be decided within 6 weeks of submission so do try and apply in plenty of time before you need the fund.  You do not need to be a charity but must be a constituted organisation of some sort – e.g. local community group, school, etc.  Applications cannot be made by individuals
