New Fitness Classes For 2018

By Scott Appleby, GREENWAY FITNESS INSTRUCTOR.

With a fresh new year, we have some exciting new classes at the Greenway Centre, ready for our local Southmead residents and beyond!

Firstly, there is STRONG by Zumba (Mondays 9:15am-10:00am & Wednesdays 9:15am-10:00am). This class is slightly different to traditional Zumba but still just as enjoyable for people of all genders.  Start training to the beat. STRONG by Zumba® combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. Every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music, helping you make it to that last rep, and maybe even five more.

In a one-hour class you will burn calories while toning arms, legs, abs and glutes. Plyometric or explosive moves like high knees, burpees, and jumping jacks are interchanged with isometric moves like lunges, squats, and kickboxing. STRONG by Zumba® instructors change up the music and moves frequently to make sure you’re always challenged to the max.

For anyone looking for our traditional Zumba class- the Tuesday 18:30 class is still happening on a weekly basis. Also, please note that Zumba STRONG will be replacing the Wednesday barbells class but the Saturday barbelles class will continue to happen each week.

The second new class on our timetable is Women’s Fitness (Thursdays 09:15am-10:00am). Feedback from class participants so far has been very positive as Becky takes participants through their paces with a different workout each week with the only rules that it is for ‘women only’. This class replaces Thursday Cubatone, but Friday Cubatone class will continue as normal.

A third Staying Steady class has been added to our timetable (Mondays 02:00pm-03:00pm). A vital class for any frail elderly person wishing to increase activity levels and reduce their risk of falling- these classes require anyone interested in joining to book a health assessment with one of our qualified fitness instructors before starting.

Finally, there is the lunchtime Pilates class (Wednesdays 11:45am-12:30pm). Taught by resident instructor Paula, this class suitable for people of all levels and slightly shorter in length than our hour Pilates classes but at a slightly cheaper £4.00 per class.

We wish all of our centre users a happy and healthy 2018. Please see our class timetable for full listings and prices. For any further questions please email us  fitness@southmead.org or call 0117 909 0027.
