Food for Thought at Southmead’s MPower Menopause Group

At the Greenway Centre last week our MPower Menopause group received a special visit from the wonderful Saba James who is a Nutritional Therapist in Bristol.  Saba tailored the session to the group’s individual questions and needs and left us feeling more informed and empowered about how we should be looking after ourselves during this life phase.

We learned that experiencing the menopause is exactly what we’re designed to do at this stage and how we can help to support ourselves with good nutrition and a watchful eye on the things we need to nourish ourselves at this time.

One of the most important tips was to eat a rainbow of food and for half of our plates to be plant based.  We talked about the effect of stress and of really enjoying taking pleasure in having a few good quality treats like a proper cup of coffee, to be savoured, or a high quality herbal teas.

We’re hoping to invite Saba back to talk with us again and meanwhile she has left us with lots of great resources – I’ve included just a couple of the many useful links below.

Our huge thanks to Saba for such a great session.  We’ll be inviting more guest speakers to the MPower group so if you’d like to come along do get in touch with me.  Our main objective is to share experiences in good company with a cuppa, we’re a very sociable group.  We meet on the first Thursday of each month at the Greenway Centre and everyone is welcome.
