We are delighted to announce that to celebrate this summer’s Olympic Games, the theme for the Southmead Festival is The Mead Olympics! Everyone is warmly invited to this free and fun family day, and if you’d like to help out as a volunteer do let us know.
Saturday 13th July, 11am – 4pm, Greenway Centre
Residents visiting the Greenway Centre have already come up with loads of suggestions for the day, and you can come and add your own to the Festival ideas board. So far ideas include balloon bombs, Coconut Shy, 3-legged race, mini golf, hoopla, giant board games, sack race, pass the parcel, footy, ‘Southmead Strictly Come Dancing’, welly boot toss . . . the list is growing and we are asking community groups and other organisations to help to put on these activities.
We hope that Southmead’s sports clubs, schools, and groups will all be involved, and if you can spread the word about the theme to everyone you know that would be great. We are aiming for the Olympian values of respect, unity, togetherness, building connections, and healthy competition – nothing our local clubs don’t already do!
There will be all the Festival usuals like tasty food, Greenway Market stalls, music, dancing, and performance, so do bring the family and enjoy. There will be chances to win a ‘Meadallion’ or a ‘Meadal’ – watch this space!
Remember it poured with rain last year and scorched with sun the year before? So, bring your chairs, rug, sunshade, umbrella, sunhat, raincoat, sun-screen, and towel!
If you have any questions, can volunteer to help on the day, or want to offer to supply and run an activity, please email: info@southmead.org
Or call our Customer Experience Manager, Mark Lemon, tel: 0117 950 3335.
Let the games begin!
