Are you ready for the best festival in town! Roll up roll up for The Mead Olympics 2024, on Saturday 13th July, 11 am – 4 pm. There will be races and competitions (just for fun), and of course special ‘Southmeadals’ (Olympic medals) awarded to competitors. How is your welly boot throwing? What about your egg and spoon skills? Raced in a sack recently? How is your badminton smash? It is going to be a great day with all the usual Southmead stuff, but with an Olympic twist. We will be looking for the best themed outfits – so do dress up and win a prize.
Our Community Performance Stage will be bursting with local talent including Southmead’s very own Esme Doll drag queen (before they dash off to the Pride Festival), the Greenway Singers raising the Southmead rafters, as well as reggae with Dan Ratchet, and the Jump Street Brass Band.
The fantastic Greenway Market will be in full-swing in the main hall with all sorts of local delights to browse and buy. Make sure you get your tickets for Shirley’s Big Festival Raffle – available now at Greenway – there are some amazing prizes to win thanks to local shops and businesses in Southmead, Westbury-on Trym and Henleaze. For tasty things Greenway’s own Café Des Amis with be serving up treats, alongside Southmead Rugby Club’s BBQ & Bar, and R&B Caribbean cuisine. And not forgetting Giuseppe’s ice creams.
There will be an Older Person’s Tent thanks to Churches Together, a Young People’s Tent with The Ranch Young People’s team, an Olympic Fitness Stage, Joel’s Olympic Assault course, and a whole host of activities for little ones – with donkey rides and a petting zoo (thanks to our kind sponsors), a bouncy castle, and activities with Southmead Children’s Centre, Raised In Bristol (Southmead), and The Ranch play team.
