Southmead Shared Reading at Southmead library, every Wednesday, 2 pm – 3:30 pm. Please join us for a free Shared Reading group. A trained facilitator will read aloud great stories and poems – you can relax, listen and join in the conversations about what we have read. All reading material is provided, as are tea and biscuits!

Are you passionate about reading and sharing great literature? Interested in enriching the lives of others through Shared Reading? In partnership with six South West Library Services and Literature Works, The Reader are recruiting volunteers to deliver weekly Shared Reading groups in 4 Bristol Libraries: Southmead, Hillfields, Filwood and St Paul’s. Volunteers will receive full training to become Local Organisers or Reader Leaders with ongoing support from The Reader, library staff, and the growing community of volunteers across the South West.
Local Organisers – this role will suit people who have or wish to develop managerial skills, who could act as an information point for those wanting to take part in shared reading, to help promote the project and to keep in touch with volunteers.
Reader Leaders – they will deliver shared reading sessions, by reading aloud and sparking conversations on the plot and the characters.
The Reader are also recruiting Shared Reading Advocates to champion and promote shared reading groups in the region that improve wellbeing, build community, and reduce social isolation.
Additionally, in order to promote the digital strand of the project we are looking for Digital/Event Volunteers– they will film/photograph or document special events in libraries in order to promote the library service and the South West Region of Readers project, and enable them to reach a wider audience by use of social media.
