At the Greenway Centre our fitness and wellbeing teams, gym members and participants, are nothing short of exceptional. They are our reason for being and the healthy, beating heart of our organisation.
Our teams at Greenway work closely together to offer an holistic approach. So whichever path leads a person to us, that first step opens access to all kinds of support.
Our gym is a friendly and welcoming space, and our group exercise classes are very sociable occasions. Participants form long-lasting friendship groups making connections which are as important to mind health, as physical activity is to body health.
Members might join for their physical health, but find themselves in a place where mental health is supported just as seriously, and for a wide age range.
GPs refer young people to our children’s Linkworker sessions and are connected with Kick Boxing, Young Gym sessions, Forest School in our adjoining nature reserve, and with many other mind boosting activities.
Services for Adults include referral to our fantastic Wellbeing Coach to make individual plans for healthier eating and exercise, as well as referral to activity groups run by our community workers and volunteers. Participants might join our popular walking group, Greenway Strollers, or our programme in partnership with Henleaze Swimming Lake. They may get involved in arts for wellbeing, our MPower menopause group, the community singalong, or help to set up groups for men.
Some begin their path with, or continue on to, our Greenway Community Learning hub for adults. Here they complete free courses to learn mindfulness, tap into their strengths, make applications, and take steps to volunteering or employment.
Before long our services have helped a person to increase personal confidence, mind health, physical health and to support their life back into the shape they would like. They then often become part of the bigger Greenway picture, volunteering and finding employment with us. Or invest in the Trust’s work and how to support us, knowing any memberships or space hire fees are not for profit – every penny is invested back in to our centres and to making our vision happen: For Southmead, its residents and neighbours thriving in all areas of life.
We want to thank our Gym & Fitness members, and all our participants, for their support and appreciation of the special nature of our work. You are part of the Greenway family – attending and volunteering at events, fundraising, and helping to shape the Centre’s and, therefore, our community’s future.
