Inclusion Southmead

Inclusion Southmead is a group of local Disabled and non-Disabled residents, working to make Southmead more inclusive and welcoming for all.

Inclusion Southmead was set up as a result of recommendations based on the Southmead Community Survey and the Disability Research Project. These showed that many Disabled people in Southmead are isolated, lack support and often face barriers to using local services and spaces.

The Group is working in partnership with Bristol Disability Equality Forum and The Care Forum. We are currently funded by Quartet Community Foundation to meet the aims of Southmead Fourteen project and the Southmead Community Plan.

We do this by;

• Holding regular meetings where residents can share ideas and experiences.
• Offering disability equality and access awareness sessions.
• Increasing awareness and understanding of the different barriers Disabled people experience.
• Campaigning to tackle the lack of access to some local shops, parks and services. For example, our campaign about the lack of access at the Mcoll’s store and Post Office at Arnside:  https://www.change.org/p/dave-mccolls-disabled-people-need-access-to-shops-and-post-offices
• Working with other local groups, councillors and organisations
• Offering small amounts of funding to other local groups who want to become more accessible.
