This team from Southmead Hospital won a national award for the work it has done to improve the experience of patients at the end of their lives. The team, made up of ward 9B, was named the winner of the Palliative and Hospice Care Team of the Year award at the BMJ awards in London on 10th May. The award was in recognition of their pilot work on the Purple Butterfly project to empower staff across the organisation to deliver high quality, personalised, compassionate end of life care.
This project is now being rolled out across the trust in all areas. Palliative Care Lead, Dr Clare Kendall, said: “We are really thrilled to have received this award in recognition of the hard work everyone has put in to improve the experience of patients at the end of their lives. However, we have concentrated our efforts in one ward so far and there is still plenty for us to do to embed Purple Butterfly across the hospital.”
