Invitation to Southmead Health Discovery Day: Tuesday 22nd October

You are warmly invited to our Health Discovery Day for Southmead residents on Tuesday 22nd October, 10 AM – 2 PM.  We would love to introduce you to dementia and diabetes experts and researchers, connect you with local health and wellbeing support organisations, and offer free refreshments and lunch for you to enjoy.

We are the Ardagh Community Trust (ACT), a charity led by local volunteers. Have you ever been up to see us on Horfield Common?  You may have visited our lovely café or joined in with our many activities and events. We manage the site for the benefit of the Horfield Common and surrounding communities, and also provide volunteering opportunities, sports, leisure, and wellbeing facilities.

Last year, we partnered with the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and hosted health events about menopause, diabetes and dementia. The NIHR is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research. The NIHR has been working with communities to understand better how they can make health and social care research more inclusive.

They were able to connect us to some incredible health professionals and researchers who came to The Ardagh to share their expertise on health conditions and talk about cutting edge research. Our community enjoyed these events so much, with one attendee telling us – “It’s been life changing.”  So, we decided, along with colleagues from the NIHR, to host another one – this time bigger and better.

This led us to the Greenway Centre and the Southmead Development Trust, and we are excited to be able to invite Southmead residents to our latest event to learn from visiting leading experts in diabetes and dementia. We are lucky enough to be joined by a range of speakers to talk about different aspects of both conditions.

There will be plenty of breaks during the event to enjoy refreshments and to talk to the speakers or to the organisations that we have invited along, including Bristol Dementia and Wellbeing Service, and Bristol Health Partners
